Bohnett Memorial Foundation

The Bohnett Memorial Foundation is a family foundation dedicated to strengthening fragile families and supporting community servants.”

2009 is a year of transition for the Foundation. As many know, 2008 was a very difficult year for the stock market. Though the foundation has worked with Ron Blue Co. to protect its corpus as much as possible, the value of the Foundation’s assets took a tremendous beating. It has been decided by the board of trustees to put a hold this year on  most of our grants and scholarships. We plan on reinstating our grants and scholarship program in 2010.

In 1968, F. Newell Bohnett founded the Violet R. Bohnett Foundation in memory of his mother who passed away that year. Newell Bohnett desired, through this Foundation, to further his mother's heritage of the loving of her family and community. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and dynamic volunteer in the Santa Barbara, California community where she lived.

In 1992, Nada V. Bohnett, the founder's wife of 46 years, passed away and was added to the name of the Foundation. (The full name of the Foundation is "The Violet R. and Nada V. Bohnett Memorial Foundation.") Nada, whose name means "hope," faithfully shared the hope she had found through her faith in Jesus Christ to many people throughout her lifetime. She also made a lasting impact upon her husband, children, grandchildren and the Hawaiian island community where she spent the last 24 years of her life.

These two women were wonderful encouragers of their family and community. So it is fitting that the Foundation that has been established in their names would be devoted to "promoting hope and help for today's families."

Since 1990, Jamie Bohnett, Newell's son, has been directing the Foundation. He and his wife, Cindy, have been involved since that time in conducting parenting classes, small groups for men, women and couples and forums for fathers. Jamie and Cindy, married in 1974 have four children and two grandchildren, and reside in Redmond, Washington. Their passion is to encourage and equip men and women to help them build lasting legacies in their families which will positively impact generations to come.
